What is orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontic treatment uses precise techniques and appliances (such as Invisalign® or traditional braces) that can, over time, correct problems with your teeth, bite and jaw. The goal of orthodontics is to improve both the appearance and function of your smile and bite.
How long will orthodontic treatment take?
Orthodontic treatment can take anywhere from a few months to a few years. The length of treatment depends upon a number of factors, including the dental issues the treatment is addressing, the age of the patient, and the level of cooperation of the patient. Our dedicated team will be happy to provide you with an estimated length of treatment if you are considering orthodontics.
Is there an age limit for braces?
No, there is no age limit for dental braces. In fact, an increasing number of adults are choosing to begin orthodontic treatment. There are many options available today which make braces much smaller, less noticeable, and more comfortable.
Invisalign® Transparent Aligners
What is Invisalign®?
The Invisalign® system is a modern approach to orthodontics which straightens teeth using clear, virtually invisible removable aligners. It is a flexible alternative to traditional orthodontic treatment.
Is Invisalign® a good choice for adults considering orthodontic treatment?
Yes, Invisalign® is an increasingly popular decision for our adult patients! In our experience, many adult patients are reluctant to proceed with orthodontic treatment.
While they understand the benefits and confidence that a beautiful smile and improved bite will provide, the idea of wearing traditional metal braces, possibly for several years, can be a deal breaker. With Invisalign® treatment, even teeth and a proper bite are attainable without compromising your natural looking smile during treatment.
Is Invisalign® available for teens?
Yes! Invisalign® is available for both adult and teen patients.
How will I know if Invisalign® is right for me?
If you are considering Invisalign®, please contact our knowledgeable team for a complete evaluation. Our caring team will explain the benefits of this orthodontic treatment, and help you decide if it is right for you.
What are orthodontic appliances?
Orthodontic appliances are sometimes used in conjunction with braces for a complete orthodontic treatment. There are many different types of orthodontic appliances.
What is a retainer?
A retainer is a common orthodontic appliance. It is a custom-made removable device that keeps your teeth in place. It is not able to shift or move your teeth at all. This should not cause any discomfort since it is not moving the teeth.
What are separators?
Separators, also referred to as spacers, are small plastic rings that fit between your molars. They are placed between your teeth to provide enough space for either bands for braces or a fixed appliance.
Separators are generally left in for several days before they are removed in order to cement bands or fixed appliances. There may be some discomfort for the first day, which should disappear.
What are fixed orthodontic appliances?
A fixed orthodontic appliance is an appliance that is cemented onto your teeth, which only your orthodontic professional is able to remove. This type of appliance usually consists of a combination of bands and wires.
There are many different types that serve a variety of functions. One of the most commonly used fixed appliances expands the upper jaw. There are many other fixed appliances that can be used for keeping teeth in place, moving teeth, or causing the lower jaw to grow forward.
