At Fort Malden Dentistry, located in Amherstburg, we offer dentures to patients to replace missing teeth.
What are dentures?
Dentures, also known as false teeth, are prosthetic devices created to replace missing teeth.
Can dentures be used to replace only a few missing teeth?
Dentures can be used to replace as few as one missing tooth, or as many as all of your teeth! Full dentures replace all of your teeth in the top and/or bottom section of your mouth.
What materials are dentures made of?
Full dentures are usually made from acrylic with acrylic or porcelain "teeth". Partial dentures replace one or more missing teeth. Partial dentures are usually made from a combination of acrylic and metal.
What are the advantages of dentures?
There are many advantages to using dentures to replace missing teeth. Dentures are the most cost effective option to replace your missing teeth. A partial denture is the most inexpensive and non-invasive option available to fill the spaces of the missing teeth.
Will I eat or speak differently with dentures?
There is an adjustment period when you first begin wearing your dentures. During this adjustment period, you may speak and eat a little differently. The muscles in your cheeks, lips, floor of your mouth and even tongue will feel differently and will need time to adjust to the new denture. Practicing speaking with your new denture is very helpful. Reading a book or newspaper out loud will help you get used to speaking clearly with the denture in your mouth. When you begin eating with your dentures, cut your food into small pieces and chew slowly with both sides of your mouth. It may take several days and up to a few weeks to feel “back to normal” while talking and eating with your new dentures in place.
Will my new denture fit properly in my mouth?
Yes! At Fort Malden Dentistry, we custom-fit your new denture exactly to your mouth. Sometimes, when speaking and eating, patients do find they develop some sore spots. If this occurs, speak with our caring team at Fort Malden Dentistry. We will usually only need to make some minor adjustments to your denture to achieve a comfortable fit.
