What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are very thin, custom-made porcelain covers, which are placed over your existing teeth to improve their appearance.
Can a single veneer be placed?
Yes! To fix a single damaged or misaligned tooth, a single veneer can be placed. To create a complete smile makeover, we can also place multiple veneers.
How will my porcelain veneers be applied to my teeth?
The porcelain veneers will be applied in a two-step process over the course of two appointments. During the first appointment, we will apply a local anaesthetic to the area and our dental team will remove a thin layer of enamel from the front of your tooth. Removing the thin layer of enamel will provide space for the veneer to be placed. Our team will then take an impression of your teeth and create a mould that will be used to construct your custom-fitted veneer. Before this appointment is complete, we will apply a temporary veneer to your tooth which will remain in place until your custom-fitted veneer is available to be applied.
At your second appointment, our team will begin by removing your temporary veneer and coat your tooth with a mild acid to etch the surface of your tooth. This will allow the veneer to adhere to your tooth. Finally, our team will bond your custom-made porcelain veneer to your tooth resulting in a natural looking, beautifully corrected smile.
How will I know if veneers are right for me?
You are a good candidate for veneers if you do not have any untreated cavities or periodontal disease. Additionally, the teeth you intend to apply the veneers to must be in good condition with sufficient enamel. Patients who clench or grind their teeth are not usually good candidates for veneers, since clenching or grinding can chip the porcelain.
